This past fall, Ms. Ricter participated in the EdExchange. EdExchange is a professional development program offered by Thinkery (Austin Children's Museum) focused on teaching educators new ways to integrate STEAM into the classroom. It culminates in an eight-week, on-campus partnership between Thinkery and each participant. During this period at Bridge Point, a representative from the Thinkery and Ms. Ricter taught students how to make their own stop motion animated movies, which were then entered in the Eanes Film Festival. | |
In January, Ms. Ricter and Karen Wylie introduced the requirements for the film festival to Ms. Rojas' class. Students were required to come up with a plot that included an SEL theme, a fish, the line "Jeepers, how did you do that?" and two specific camera angles. The second graders used HUE cameras and learned how to make a storyboard, created characters and backgrounds for their movies, and worked through the process of filming their stories from start to finish. Although some groups ran out of time to add audio, all students came away from the experience with lots of new knowledge about movie making! Checkout a few examples below.
