Over the last two weeks, kindergarten and first grade students have enjoyed zoo-themed read alouds during their library time. In kindergarten, we read an illustrated version of the popular song Going to the Zoo and first graders learned about Abraham Dee Bartlett and the invention of the modern zoo with the biography Fur, Fins, and Feathers. After reading, students went on a virtual field trip to the San Diego Zoo. This zoo has live animal cams that allow viewers to see right into the enclosures. We got to witness polar bears eating snow, tigers slinking around in the shadows, and apes playing around. It was a great way for students to extend their knowledge authentically. If you'd like to check out the animal cams for yourself, head on over this way! |
