This year, 186 students participated in Read-A-Thon. Overall, our school raised a total of $22,847, which is really amazing because we came in second! Even more exciting was the fact that BPE students read more minutes and pages than any other school in Austin! As a reward for all of our hard work, Whataburger visited the BPE library to serve milk and cookies to every Read-A-Thon participant.
We also had a special guest, Mark Wabschall, speak at our awards assembly. Mark lives next door to BPE students Avery and Evelyn Bell, and his wife was formerly executive director of BookSpring. Dressed in his Cat in the Hat garb, he told us more about how the money students raised goes to benefit the greater Austin community.
While each bobcat who contributed to Read-A-Thon received prizes, we also had a few students who went the extra mile to read the most pages, minutes, and raise the most money. This year's individual award winners were:
